The concept of influencer in nursing literature is relatively
new. As McCall (2019) remarks, due to the nature of their profession, nurses
are being “influencers” every day when they teach their clients, recommend services,
or advocate health.
At Work
Nurses spend considerable time with their clients who are constantly
watching them. Their power of influencing is remarkable.
Example: Providing healthy eating tips to a post op
bariatric patient.
In School
Nurse educators in academic or work settings have a great
influence on their students or fellow nurses.
Example: A health educator in a specific field followed by
students or coworkers can have a significant influence on followers’ career
choices.
At Home
Nurses can be health promoters in any setting they find
themselves in. Their professional reach and social responsibility is noteworthy.
Example: A nurses’ credibility and influence is noticeable in
the circle of family and friends.
