Nurse’s Primary Mission to Promote a Healthy Lifestyle
Nurses play a central role in encouraging and maintaining health. The American Nurses Association [ANA] Code of Ethics for Nurses holds nurses accountable for advancing and promoting health in the society (n.d., Provision 9.3). Healthy living is an important social change topic nowadays. According to the World Health Organization [WHO] (2024), “a healthy lifestyle is a way of living that lowers the risk of being seriously ill or dying early.” To ensure it, the WHO is commending a series of steps anyone can take to improve their health. Eating healthy and maintaining a body mass index (BMI) of 18.5-24.5 are first WHO recommendations. A plant-based nutritious diet of fresh vegetables and fruit is preferred to one containing animal products. Limiting fatty products of animal origin, salt, sugary drinks, and sweets is advised.
